What is Strength training?
Strength training is progressive overload. In simple terms making our muscles work hard to adapt and create growth.
Now the big question is am I getting stronger? Am I training properly to adapt and overload? This is a relative answer to each and all of us. Unless you have one absolute goal of only getting stronger (not fitter or healthier) generally there is only one focus which is to lift more.
Now almost all of us are not training for the sole purpose of lifting 1 pound more in our lifts but we want to prevent atrophy as well as overload our muscles to produce stimulation and growth. This is not done in one way (which most people think it is).
At L5 we use multiple methods weightlifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, volume, and intensity to adapt and become stronger. The question is not how much more can I lift but overall what is my fitness and strength progress.
Next time you question “Am I getting stronger?” open up that question to am I overloading my muscles and getting fitter and healthier at the same time.
